Jaroslav Sůra (1929-2011) was a Czech painter, illustrator and graphics artist.
Sůra studied at the School of Applied Arts in Prague between 1948 and 1954. Most famous for his theatre poster designs, he’s said to have created between 500 and 650 different poster designs. He designed and illustrated about 250 books, drew countless logos and was a talented painter. He had more than 40 solo exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad. He often worked together with his wife Vera Surova.
Sůra's work is held in many of the top national galleries across the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, USA. In 1995, he was awarded the prestigious American National Award for the graphic design of the best book of the year on the subject of the Holocaust.
